First Friday: Pride Edition!

  • Athens Cultural Center 24 Second Street Athens, NY 12015 United States (map)

This month we celebrate the opening of our exhibition Next to the Wild: the Seen and the Discovered, and invite all community members to a night of art, music, jokes, and PRIDE! ACC and the Catskills Comedy Festival present live comedy from Boston Comedy Festival finalist Kate Sisk (he/she/they) and music from Carter Lou McElroy (she/her), all hosted by the most fabulous Amanda Love! Greene County Family Planning will be joining us to share info on their services and offer free condoms, Narcan, Fentanyl/Xylazine Test Strips, and Tick Kits. In honor of Pride Month, all cash donations made to ACC during this event will be passed on to LGBTQIA+ safe haven House of Precise.

Kate Sisk (he/she/they) is a professional stand up comedian, amateur drag king, and retired soccer player from Massachusetts. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Kate has improvised on UCB’s Harold Night, contributed for The Onion, and been selected for the NBC Late Night Writers Workshop. Kate’s dynamic stand up comedy about life as a trans person and former member of the Puerto Rico Women’s National Soccer Team has earned Kate appearances in the HBO Women In Comedy Festival and the Finals of the Boston Comedy Festival. When not performing on the road, Kate hosts a comedy and drag variety show in NYC called "The Luke Ass Spectacular". Kate is also the former co-host of the award-winning podcast, "We’re Having Gay Sex". Kate’s Comedy Central Featuring set is out now and available on YouTube! You can find Kate everywhere online under the handle @thekatesisk

Carter Lou McElroy (she/her) makes music for building fires by - sounds both wild and tranquil, worlds both real and imagined, stories that hang around like smoke in your hair. Her songwriting is rooted in meaning-making, with intimate and complex narratives revealed through the folk traditions of her southern upbringing and the boundary-bending prose of her New York home. The result is music that's both referential and deeply personal - the heart of Patsy Cline with the grit of Patti Smith, with a raw, heady spirit all her own.
