• Little Cloud

    Take a journey with Eric Carle’s Little Cloud. Gaze and wonder at all the forms a cloud can make. Little Cloud will inspire and delight the youngest child to paint their own little cloud after the story.

  • Cyanotype Card Making

    Sunday, May 7: 10am to 12pm

    Recommended Ages 6 to 11

    In this class, we will make cyanotype and watercolor Mother’s Day cards! Using a special photographic material to make “sun prints”, we will capture the shapes of flowers and plants, and layer watercolor and drawings over the prints we make. Make as many cards as you would like, and feel free to bring in small objects like flowers, leaves, lace, string, etc., to make your cyanotype “sun print”.

ARtistic Explorations March 2023

Featuring student artwork from the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, K through 12 and curated by their teachers: Elisa Futia, Lori Morris, Kayla Ramundo, and Andy Olstad

You’re invited: opening reception, Wednesday, March 15th: 4 to 6pm - Celebrate the art, enjoy refreshments with family and friends, and participate in a community coloring activity. Children will take home a gift from the Athens Cultural Center. The event is free and open to all.

Join us for any of the FREE kids classes below. Bring a buddy, learn something new, get inspired. RSVP is recommended but not required.

  • Owl Moon Story & Craft

    Sunday, March 19: 10 - 11 AM

    Recommended Ages 1 to 5

    In a nod to the Coxsackie-Athens mascot, the gentle and poetic tale of Owl Moon will be read. This is a story about a little girl who goes owling with her father. Exquisite illustrations paint a nighttime winter landscape of trees with hidden creatures, and a world that is silent as a dream. Owl Moon might inspire you to go owling, too! Following the story, children will be able to make a multimedia craft of their own owl. Snacks and refreshments included.

  • Group Line Design

    Wednesday, March 22nd: 4 - 6 PM

    Recommended Ages 6 to 11

    Have fun working in groups to create your own piece of a pattern puzzle! We'll work as a community to decide what shape our design should be, maybe a person or a Lighthouse like the one you can see from Athens! Create a design with patterns and colors that you choose together. We'll use markers for bright colors that stand out!

  • Drum & Doodle

    Sunday, March 26: 10 to 11 AM

    Recommended Ages 1 to 5

    Young children will make melodies and rhythms along with the gentle beats of Olympia Avignone and Steve Collins. They will also have the opportunity to doodle with paints, crayons, and magic markers. (Instruments provided.) Snacks and refreshments included.

  • Lighthouse Fiber Collage

    Wednesday, March 29: 4-6pm

    Recommended Ages 6 to 11

    Using recycled clothing, we will create fiber collages of the Athens-Hudson lighthouse! You will be provided with a template and all materials necessary to create your unique, vibrantly colored collage. Any bright clothes or fabric scraps you’d like to contribute to your piece are welcome, but not necessary.

Summer Classes Highlights 2022

Thanks to the students, staff, parents, community and EJA Elementary for a great summer! Our free art classes for children age 6 through 12 included Rainforest Relief sculpture with Wendy Doney, On With the Show! A theatrical intensive with Lex Grey and Erin Lee, Artist Trading Cards with Rachel Dorr, Let it Out! Music and poetry with Ted Boburka and Natalie Boburka, and Create and Capture - a sculpture intensive including a field trip to Art Omi with Natalie Boburka.
