Join Jim Cramer ‘in the field’ and learn from his 40+ years of painting En Plein Air. Craft your observation skills onsite and learn to capture your day quickly in oils (preferred) or acrylics. Students are responsible for bringing their own materials (see materials list below) and dressing appropriately for the weather. Recommended intermediate skill level.
In case of inclement weather classes will be rescheduled.
Arrive at the Cultural Center promptly at 8:30am to travel to painting destinations in and around Athens, such as Four Mile Point, River Road, Riverfront Park, and Olana, TBD.
Florals in White, Inspired by GEORGIA O’KEEFFE
Wednesday, May 22nd 1-3PM
Examine Georgia O’Keeffe’s white flower paintings as inspiration with artist Natalie Boburka. You’ll choose your own individual photo of a white flower (provided) to draw using a loose grid for accuracy. You’ll learn to draw the negative space and will then paint the basic color with shifts in tone, value, and form of the parts of the flower. You’ll add the details using different ways of applying the paint for texture. Last, you’ll choose a contrasting color for the background. Each painting will be a remarkable, small jewel!
Course includes materials fee. Materials provided.

Stitch + Sip!
Join us on Thursday evening for embroidery, mending and wine! Artist Maeve McCool will lead participants through creating a ‘sampler’ which covers basic embroidery stitches and mending techniques.
Thursday, May 23rd from 6-8PM
A glass of wine included.
Additional servings $5 suggested donation.
You will need the following supplies and materials:
Fabrics and/or clothes as your canvas
Two Embroidery hoops (8-12 inches: one for making a sampler and one for projects)
Embroidery needles (they have a larger hole for threading)
Embroidery threads of various colors
