Color and Light A Celebration of Regional Artists
Main Street USA Vintage Images of a Thriving Village ![]() Athens at 201 The Photographs of R.J. Hummer In 2005, the village of Athens celebrated its bicentennial and R.J.Hummer, an Athens photographer, used this as an opportunity to record the event. Come see yourself in his colorful photographs and video recordings. Dates: Opening reception: Saturday, June 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. Exhibition hours: Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. by appointment, Call 518-945-2136 for details James Dustin: River Views Models & Paintings ![]() Dustin's work encompasses the integration of painting, architecture and landscape. For the last several years, the artist has been building small architectural pavilion models, which are then photographed outside, with views of the surrounding landscape taking up the open spaces of the models. The paintings are then constructed based on the photos, and exhibited with the models. Dates: August 5th through September 6th Opening reception: Saturday, August 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. Exhibition hours: Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. by appointment, Call 518-945-2136 for details Major Works by Minors Student Artists Exhibit their Artwork In 2006, the Athens Cultural Center initiated its after-school and summer arts program for kids and teens. Come support our local student artists as they exhibit their best works. Dates: September 16th and 17th: Film Premiere from the Teen Film Society, Saturday September 16th from 6-8pm. Enjoy popcorn and soda and film shorts from our talented local teens. Artists’ Reception for student art work: Reception on Sunday the 17th from 2to 4 p.m. Two Plus One Artists Paintings by Joan Kiley and Reginald Madison Glass Sculpture by Pat Bennett Reginald
Madison lives and works directly on the Athens waterfront, creating
both easel-sized paintings as well as colossal works that fill the vast
walls of his industrial studio space. The artist has been influenced
and inspired by two Romare’s, the famous artist Romare Bearden and his
chocolate Labrador retriever, Romare. Madison’s paintings are paired
with the colorful glass sculptures of Pat Bennet, another regional
artist. Bennet's work translates the ancient Venetian tradition of
working in colored glass canes into a modern aesthetic. Her
anthropomorphic works combine glass, metal and thin, wing-like
membranes to create Painting by Reggie Madison whimsical sculptures. Kiley, who works in the former industrial complex now anchored by MassMOCA uses humor and vivacious colors and textures in her paintings to explore the impact of media on our everyday lives. Opening Reception: Saturday, October 7th from 6 to 8 p.m. Halloween Masquerade Party: Saturday, October 28th from 7 to 9 p.m. Exhibition hours: Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.or by appointment, Call 518-945-2136 for details Sunday October 29th is the Athens Pumpkin Parade Random Harvest Your Art Here, No Questions Asked The Athens Cultural Center closes its 2006 season with a show of member-chosen works. Come experience the diversity of artists working in the Hudson River Valley. Members are invited to submit their most interesting works. Non-members are encouraged to join.
