Pastel Workshiop with Dot Chast
Fridays, August 8 through August 21
1-4 PM. Free. Limited space.  For registration, leave name and telephone number clearly at 945-2136 or brphoto@mhcable.com

A free three-session course on Working with Pastels will be presented by Dot Chast at the Athens Cultural Center. It will begin on Friday, August 8, 1-4 pm and continue on August 15 and 22. Adult and teen participants will be provided with all art supplies needed.

Dot Chast, a local artist and experienced teacher, encourages the freedom to follow ones own ideas while providing explanations of the basics: materials (pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils and types of papers) and seeing and understanding variations in using color.   She will provide a few objects to observe and draw from or students may go in their own directions with encouragement and help as needed.

A native New Yorker, living in Greene County who works in pastels, pencil, printmaking, watercolors and oils, she is a member of the Woodstock Artists’ Association, the Tivoli Artists’ Co-op, the Greene County Council on the Arts, All Arts Matter and, of course, the Athens Cultural Center at 24 Second Street in Athens where these workshops will take place.

Interested people may reserve a place in the group by calling (518) 945-2136 and mention the Pastels Workshop and clearly providing their name and telephone number.  Space is limited.

Many of last year's students agree - this was the most enjoyable class they ever attended and did not want to see it end! Come early and enjoy your dinner at Ursula's Restaurant (located across the street) or dine "plein air" on a picnic table overlooking the scenic Hudson River. As the class begins, enjoy the company of your fellow artists, some good, solid instruction and loads of inspiration.

This class is for beginner, intermediate and advanced students who are interested in studying traditional methods of painting. This course is designed to take advantage of the historic Hudson River School landscape painting techniques and will explore painting sunsets on the Hudson River.

The class will meet at The Athens Riverside Park, weather permitting, or at the Athens Cultural and Arts Center during inclement weather. Oils, Acrylics with "wet" pallets, Watercolors, Pastels and Pencil (Graphite, Colored or Charcoal) can be used. Classes begin at 5:30pm through 8:30pm. To ensure individual instruction there is a maximum enrollment of twelve.

Instructor: Robert A. Lahm - Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts (advertising design & illustration); Montclair Art Museum School. Mr. Lahm has worked as a commercial illustrator for more than 35 years and is an avid landscape and wildlife painter. Robert Lahm's telephone number is 518 634-2305.View his work on line at: www.francomm.com\home\ralahm
