Robert Lahm Returns to the Athens Cultural Center for Five More Free Teen Classes

Acrylic Painting: Drawing, Transfer & Underpainting

Five Sundays: January 11, 18, 25, and February 1 and 8

The Athens Cultural Center is offering five free lessons in Acrylic Painting with Robert Lahm especially for young people, ages 13 to 19, on five Sundays (January 11, 18, 25, February 1 and 8) from noon to four o’clock. All skill levels are welcome.  Class size is limited and all materials will be provided.

These five classes will continue teaching an understanding of the elements of drawing – form, perspective, values, shading and composition – explored in a hands-on, individual instruction forum. In addition, a completed drawing of a still life will be transferred to a painting structure and developed into a monochromatic underpainting in the early Flemish tradition - in preparation for the color glaze technique.

Robert Lahm has given numerous classes for adults at the Athens Cultural Center and also Columbia-Greene Community College. His previous class for teens at the Cultural Center was well attended and had a relaxed yet serious atmosphere.

To register for the classes, call the Athens Cultural Center at 518 945-2136 and clearly leave the name and telephone number of the interested teenager.

The Cultural Center is located at 24 Second Street in Athens.

Many of last year's students agree - this was the most enjoyable class they ever attended and did not want to see it end! Come early and enjoy your dinner at Ursula's Restaurant (located across the street) or dine "plein air" on a picnic table overlooking the scenic Hudson River. As the class begins, enjoy the company of your fellow artists, some good, solid instruction and loads of inspiration.

This class is for beginner, intermediate and advanced students who are interested in studying traditional methods of painting. This course is designed to take advantage of the historic Hudson River School landscape painting techniques and will explore painting sunsets on the Hudson River.

The class will meet at The Athens Riverside Park, weather permitting, or at the Athens Cultural and Arts Center during inclement weather. Oils, Acrylics with "wet" pallets, Watercolors, Pastels and Pencil (Graphite, Colored or Charcoal) can be used. Classes begin at 5:30pm through 8:30pm. To ensure individual instruction there is a maximum enrollment of twelve.

Instructor: Robert A. Lahm - Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts (advertising design & illustration); Montclair Art Museum School. Mr. Lahm has worked as a commercial illustrator for more than 35 years and is an avid landscape and wildlife painter.
