SWING
INTO SPRING WITH
SWING DANCING
Now that
the weather's heated up, why don't you do the same?
Wednesday, May 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd, 7-8:30 p.m.
If you’re looking for a way to swing into spring, come to the Athens
Cultural Center on Wednesday nights in May to swing dance. You
don’t have to have a partner and you don’t have to have any
experience. Just bring a willing spirit to learn and make new
friends.
Deb Samuels, a New York State employee, and Harvey Sprung, a retired
teacher, have enthusiastically agreed to teach Basic East Coast Swing
Dancing to adults of all ages.
During the first hour, the two avid swing-dancers will teach the basic
simple steps and the techniques of balance, hand holds, and
tension. The last half hour will be devoted to practice.
Participants must be willing to change partners and be prepared with
comfortable clothing and leather or suede bottom shoes (not sneakers)
for easy sliding.
To register, tell us whether you’d like to lead or follow and either
email info@athensculturalcenter.org
with Swing Dance in the subject space or send a letter to Swing Dance,
Athens Cultural Center, 24 Second Street, Athens, NY 12015 and include
your name and telephone number.

STUDIO
PAINTING
WITH ROBERT LAHM
Learn to work in Oils,
Acrylic,
Watercolor and Egg Tempera with
this noted
instructor Tuesday
evenings 6-9 p.m.. March
20th through May 8th |
 |
This class is for beginner,
intermediate and advanced students who are
interested in studying traditional methods of painting. Beginning
students will work from
a still life
using the under-painting and
glazed color approach. This classic style allows the beginner to learn
values and colors separately, which is less confusing than conventional
direct painting techniques. Intermediate and advanced students can
increase their range of abilities by accomplishing this method.
Intermediate and advanced students are invited to bring special
projects (i.e. unfinished paintings, from photographs, etc.) to work on
in class. All students should bring an easel and new students a 12 X 18
or 14 X 17 sketch pad, kneaded eraser and charcoal pencils to class on
opening night. Additional material requirements for new students will
be discussed then. The class will have a maximum enrollment of 12 and
will be focused on individual instruction for each of the participants.
About the instructor:
Robert A. Lahm – Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts (advertising
design & illustration); Montclair Art Museum School. Mr. Lahm has
worked as a commercial illustrator for more than 35 years and is an
avid landscape and wildlife painter. View his work on line at: www.francomm.com\home\ralahm

FREE SUMMER CLASSES
FOR KIDS
Six
weeks of Summer Fun Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Classes
start July 10th!
Instructor Natalie
Boburka reprises her popular summer class schedule for 2007. The
classes cover a wide range of art forms such as papermaking, collage,
painting, drawing and sculpture. Historical themes and great artists of
the past will serve as inspiration.
In her teaching,
Natalie really pushes color so her students develop their own color
palettes. “The great thing about classes in the Cultural Center is that
the kids become comfortable in a gallery environment at a young age.
The kids really encourage each other and it becomes a very supportive
environment.”
